Freedom Becomes Fragile without Maintenance

I’m going to share with you the reason why this is the title of my book. First, we have to know the definition of freedom.

My definition of freedom is:

Freedom is the right to do as one desires without restraint, within the confines of God’s law and man’s law, founded on the principles of God’s word.

Throughout much of our history, freedom was highly regarded. Today, it’s taken for granted, and its value is underappreciated. Therefore, it has become an easy target for its removal.

Why is that?

Anything that was highly regarded and appreciated, and no longer is, will not be protected, because its value is no longer recognized.

The value of anything you own is reflected in its cost, which is the price required to acquire it. Since we as a nation no longer know the high price that was paid for our freedom, we have no way of knowing its value.

The longevity (lifespan) and quality of what you value are determined by the time, effort, and sacrifice you are willing to make to ensure its maintenance. Since we as a nation are ignorant of our true history, we have withdrawn from investing the time, effort, and sacrifice required to maintain our freedom 

I have a fairly new car, which I value. I like the way it looks, the way it drives, and the fact that it gets me to wherever I need to go fast and easy. It’s a blessing that provides many benefits. But these benefits were not free. The car came at the expense of much of my time, effort, and sacrifice to purchase it and have the opportunity to experience its value. Yes, I like the car and enjoy the experience of its benefits, but I have come to realize I have the responsibility for its upkeep, which determines its longevity (lifespan).

Have you ever gone by a junkyard and seen cars that are there long before they should be? They are there because the responsibility for their upkeep was disregarded. The reason for disregarding the upkeep is usually one of two reasons. Ignorance or indifference (laziness).

Ignorance occurs when a person doesn’t know what to do. Indifference is knowing what to do and choosing to do nothing. Both are being irresponsible with the same results. Lack of maintenance, which is identified as unfulfilled responsibility, always demands accountability, and accountability is on display in every junkyard.

Now I’ll ask you another question. Have you ever gone to a car show, where older cars that were restored or maintained were on display? Their value has not only been maintained, but increased. Why is this? Because the time, effort, and sacrifice were made for their maintenance and longevity. Therefore, the benefits of their looks and performance are still enjoyed.

Now, using this example, I want to continue talking to you about freedom. The following is a statement made by Ronald Regan in 1967 in his address as governor:

Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance. It must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again. 

The value of our freedom can only be known by knowledge of its cost, or sadly, when it is lost. Its cost can only be found in the true Godly history of America.

“The freedom we have if not maintained, will not remain, and if it’s lost, because we failed to pay the cost, we’ll realize too late we’ve created our own fate.”

The fate of bondage is on the other side of too late, where the value of freedom is now realized, but the experience of freedom is no longer known. This is on display in any nation that once knew freedom, but no longer does. Venezuela is a present-day example.

Either we spend the time, provide the effort, and make the sacrifice now to learn our true history, which reveals our responsibilities, or suffer the inevitable consequences of “too late. 

God will not vindicate (clear of blame) anyone who chooses to be irresponsible on purpose, when knowledge is available. They cannot hide their incompetence behind their religiosity (the fact that they are Christians) and think they are unaccountable.
